Question:
What is the ruling of plastic surgery?
Answer: ﺑﺴﻢ اﷲ اﻟﺮﺣﻤﻦ اﻟﺮﺣﯿﻢ In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Plastic surgery that is done for the sake of beautification, e.g. breast enlargement, buttock lift, is prohibited because this would entail taghyeer khalq Allah (changing the creation of Allah). However, if the plastic surgery is done due to a genuine need, e.g. a body part became deformed on account of an injury, or a person was born with a sixth finger, and he wants to amputate it, then this would be permissible on the condition that there is no predominant fear of death or greater harm. If one desires to undergo plastic surgery, one should consult a qualified Mufti to ascertain whether the reason is genuine or not.
